Organizations invest millions of dollars in training programs, and organizations want to see a positive return for the money spent. As a result, training and HR managers, like Ryan, are increasingly being asked to justify their expenses and demonstrate how training dollars increase the organization’s bottom line. The problem is that some benefits derived from training can be intangible and difficult to quantify. How do you measure and put a dollar value on increased morale or better teamwork? Evaluation and analysis give trainers an opportunity to go back to the beginning and assess the results of the training cycle. (Gusdorf, M.L., 2009).

While developing and analyzing training evaluation data can be complicated you are up for the task. Your work with previous clients has shown you are highly skilled at evaluating the training programs you develop. You also have the ability to provide your clients with ROI that they can see and understand in clear and concise terms. With this in mind, you stretch and grab your favorite afternoon beverage. You are ready to begin work on your client’s training evaluation instruments.

Instructions

  1. Design the evaluation instruments for your training based on the methods discussed in our textbook.
    1. Google Forms is recommended as an easy to use online survey assessment tool. It will gather all of your responses and create graphs, etc. for you. Click here to learn more about how to use Google Forms.
      1. SurveyMonkey is another online survey tool that is easy to use. Click here to learn more about using and to login to SurveyMonkey.
      2. Note, you do not have to use either of these tools for your evaluation(s); you can select another evaluation method. However, the method you select must be easily accessible to your instructor and classmates.
    2. Make sure to include all resources utilized for your research, cite your sources.
    3. Go to your Trello board, click on “+ Add another list”. Title your new list “Evaluation of Training”. Submit all of your evaluation work here.
  2. Create a new card for each evaluation instrument selected and provide an easily understood title for each card.
    1. Attach the evaluation instrument to the appropriate card.
    2. Under each evaluation card you created explain by selecting Comments under each attachment why you selected each evaluation instrument.

  1. In addition to receiving feedback that you have determined the organization will benefit from you will also receive feedback from at least two of your peers regarding the quality of your training program design and presentation skills. This feedback will be provided to you using the Online Training Presentation Evaluation survey template provided for you. Follow these steps to create your copy of this evaluation instrument

  1. IMPORTANT – you MUST use your baker.edu email in order to access this form. 
  2. This evaluation is anonymous, keep it set as anonymous.
  3. Follow the instructions provided on the master form to make a copy of the evaluation
  4. Once you have made your own copy click on the title and update it to include your name at the beginning and remove Copy from the title.
    1. Note, you can change the background, colors, etc. if you choose. Make it your own, however, do not change or delete the current questions. If you choose you can add up to two (2) additional questions of your choice.
  5. You will be able to see your results as they come in by clicking on Responses at the top of your survey.
  6. Go to your Trello board, under the Evaluation of Training list create a new card titled: Online Training Presentation Evaluation.
    1. Attach the evaluation instrument to this card.
  7. Review and finalize your online training program for next week!
