The initial phase of case management—assessment—involves obtaining a holistic picture of the client from multiple angles. In this week’s first discussion, you will evaluate an example of a completed social history write-up prepared for a fictional client and consider other pertinent elements that might be incorporated into the assessment phase.

· The overall significance of social history in the assessment phase.

· The depth, clarity, and completion of the sample social history.

· Whether or not the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is applicable to the client’s assessment, and why.

· Whether or not the Mental Status Exam is applicable to the client’s assessment, and why.
